RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES

DISTANCE LEARNING AND FLEX LEARNING DAY

CHILDCARE

In compliance with Governor Walz’s Executive Order 20-02, “Emergency workers (including providers of healthcare, emergency medical services, long-term and post-acute care; law enforcement personnel; personnel providing correctional services; public health employees; firefighters and other first responders; and court personnel) are critical to the State's response to COVID-19. Schools are directed to provide care to, at minimum, district-enrolled students aged 12 and under who are children of emergency workers. In providing this care, schools must practice hygiene and social distancing best practices. Schools are not required to provide this care during previously scheduled breaks reflected on a school-board approved calendar.”
Childcare will be provided at MELA for those families who fall under the order and is available from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. From March 23, 2020- May 4, 2020. MELA will not provide childcare April 6-10, 2020 as it was the regularly scheduled Spring Break. Those parents who are utilizing child care from March 23, 2020 - April 3rd, 2020 will need to provide a letter from their employer indicating they are categorized as an emergency worker and are being required to work. While this may seem restricting for some of you, the intention of school closure is to enact “social distancing” and honor the shelter-in-place government order to help curb a potential spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.
In order to receive childcare, a parent/guardian will have to fill out the form: MELA Child Care Coverage. The reason for this is so we can make appropriate foodservice and potential transportation arrangements. Those who fill out the form will receive specific details outlining these arrangements.
