It is the intent of Minnesota Excellence in Learning Academy's school board and administration to follow all policies, rules, and laws applicable to the school as a charter school in Minnesota. MELA leadership believe in transparency and accountability. The school reports to two main organizations for compliance.
The Minnesota Department of Education is the primary compliance engine for charter schools in Minnesota. Charter schools are required to follow state statutes related to public school compliance. Other than the funding structure, charter schools are bound by most of the same requirements as traditional public schools. MELA is required to accept all students without bias based on enrollment policies and laws. The school ambitiously supports the enrollment of students regardless of educational needs including students with incoming IEPs and 504 plans.
The charter school authorizer, Innovative Quality Schools, partners with MELA to ensure the school is following compliance requirements. MELA nurtures a close partnership with its authorizer, integrating the supportive resources and connections that IQS generously provides. MELA's profile and evaluations can be viewed via the IQS website.
